The Monterey Bay Oktoberfest 2013. As celebrated in the past, this traditional German style outdoor festival promises to be a rousing beer garden party, with all the foamy fun and frivolity that millions of beer lovers across the world have come to enjoy.

Event sponsor Andre Lengacher, Chef and Owner of Lugano Swiss Bistro, says: “To me, Oktoberfest is a great time of camaraderie, beer, dancing, Lederhosen, fun…it’s just fun.” Revelers will listen and dance to The Flying Dutchman with his wide array of musical talents, The Internationals, a well-established Bay Area-based band that plays dance music from around the world. On Saturday, September 14th , a fantastic brass band , known as Del Monte Brass from the Naval Postgraduate School will also entertain the crowd.

Look out for some delicious, mouth-watering Oktoberfest food: Bratwurst, Calamari, Bavarian-style Turkey Legs, German Pretzels and more. Browse through select arts and crafts vendors and, of course, there is the beer…Ahh, what better than a great big stein of Munich Oktoberfest brew, imported all the way from Germany. Monterey Bay Oktoberfest, as with all Oktoberfests around the world is about quaffing great beer, partying with wonderful, enthusiastic members of the community and celebrating life, German style. A German Parade will march through the fairgrounds, complete with Bernese Mountain Dogs, St. Pauli Girls and Ms. Oktoberfests from previous years and participants dressed in traditional lederhosen and dirndl. In keeping with the convention in Germany to have a county official break open the first keg of beer, County Supervisor, Dave Potter on Saturday and on Sunday Monterey Bay and Beyond with Hunter Finnell, the Master of Ceremonies, will be present to get the festivities started. On Sunday we’ll have a pageant to crown the 2014 Miss Oktoberfest, so watch this space!

The Monterey Bay Oktoberfest is committed both to having fun and to giving back to wider regional, national and global communities. Thousands of children in the Philippines go without fresh water or a nuturious meal every single day, making learning and growth challenging. The Monterey Bay Oktoberfest, which takes place in September this year at the Monterey Fairground gives the residents of California’s central coast the opportunity to make a difference. Nargis Lengacher who is originally from Kenya had this to say: “Growing up in Kenya, I am very aware of the difference that availability of fresh water makes to growing children. I am very excited at the opportunity we now have for Oktoberfest to help the children of the Philippines. It may seem like a drop in the ocean but every drop helps”. The United Nations has declared 2013 the Year of Water Cooperation. With this in mind, the Monterey Bay Oktoberfest has partnered with the Monterey Rotary Club, to build on the Rotary Club’s current water and nutrition projects in the region and around the globe. By supporting Oktoberfest, you could help to build water wells and provide healthy, balanced meals for children at schools in the Philippines. We can’t wait to see you there!
