Due to the overwhelming success and outstanding growth of this annual beer fest in the past two years, it became necessary to find a larger venue to stage this authentic Bavarian beer drinking fest on the peninsula so everyone can experience this annual tradition that includes a wide variety of beer shipped from Germany just for the occasion. On the weekend of September 14th and 15th 2013, Lugano Swiss Bistro and Monterey County Fairgrounds are presenting “The Monterey Bay Oktoberfest 2013.” As delivered in the past, this traditional German style outdoor festival promises to be a rousing beer garden party, with all the foamy fun and frivolity that millions of beer lovers across the world have come to enjoy. Major implementations are in place to alleviate long beer lines so that one should have a beer in their hands within minutes.
At 2:00 PM a German Parade will march throughout the fairgrounds, complete with Bernese Mountain Dogs, St. Pauli Girls and Ms. Oktoberfest s from prior years and participants dressed in lederhosen and dirndl. In keeping with the original tradition in Germany to have a county official break open the first keg of beer, County Supervisor, Dave Potter on Saturday and on Sunday Monterey Bay and Beyond with Hunter Finnell TV Show el, the Master of Ceremonies, will be present to open the first beer keg to get the festivities started.
According to event sponsor, Andre Lengacher, Chef and Owner of Lugano Swiss Bistro: “To me, Oktoberfest is a great time of camaraderie, beer, dancing, Lederhosen, fun…it’s just fun.”
Fun is what the Oktoberfest tradition is all about. The home base of all Oktoberfest celebrations takes place in Munich, Germany each year and spans 16-18 days running from late September to the first weekend in October. It is one of the most famous events in Germany and the world’s largest fair, with more than 5 million people attending every year. The Oktoberfest is an important part of Bavarian culture. Other cities across the world also hold Oktoberfest celebrations, modeled after the Munich event. Spaten, creators of the first Oktoberfest beer and one of a small exclusive club of German brewers allowed to serve at the prestigious Munich event, and Stiegl, as well as local craft breweries will be served at The Monterey Bay Oktoberfest 2013.
A huge tent will be set up for the Beer Garden drinkers where easy going revelers will listen and dance. The Flying Dutchman will be opening the party followed by The Internationals, a well-established Bay Area-based band that bills itself as: “Dance music from everywhere around the world.” www.theinternationals.com – Fresh off their San Francisco Oktoberfest performance, The Internationals’ saxophone, tuba, traps, accordion together with a polka beat, create a free flowing musical joy that will equal a full day of smiles and memories of great times spent with old friends and new Oktoberfest acquaintances. The Internationals even played in Munich at the official Oktoberfest, hence, they carry the authentic touch of music and are the appropriate band who keep the festival authentic in tradition by conducting the beer games, the beer mug holding contests, alphorn blowing and even the Ms. Oktoberfest 2013 Contest. All fun-loving Frauleins on the peninsula are invited to dress up in Dirndls or German attire and compete for the title of Ms. Oktoberfest 2013 and win a crown, bouquet and a case of beer!
Look for some great mouth-watering Oktoberfest food: Bratwurst with Sauerkraut German Potato Salad Monterey Bay Calamari, Smoked Turkey Legs, German Pretzels, Apple Strudel and German Taft Beers, Spaten Lager. Spaten Oktoberfest Beer Hoffbrau Stiegl Pilsner Hefe Weise English ale and more Browse through select arts and crafts vendors and, of course, there is the beer…ahh, what better than a great big stein of Munich Oktoberfest brew, imported all the way from Germany. Monterey Bay Oktoberfest, as with all Oktoberfest s around the world, is about enjoying great beer, partying with wonderful, enthusiastic members of the community and celebrating life – German style.
A portion of the proceeds will go to three non-profit organizations, the Cannery Row Rotary Feeding Program in the Philippines, the Heritage Foundation and the local Lions Club.
